category: Campus News Summer makeover: Butler Hall project focuses on improving C-N’s welcome center category: Campus News | June 24, 2022 Butler Hall project- summer 2022 Summer projects are helping Carson-Newman’s Bertie Maples Butler Hall look her best for when students return to campus this fall. Built in 1953 with additional space added over the years, Butler is home to several offices, student residences and the University’s Admissions and Financial Aid Offices, which serve as the C-N’s “front door” for students and families considering enrolling. “We want every visiting prospective student and family to see and feel how much they matter to Carson-Newman from the first second they pull up to campus,” said Clay Wilkerson, director of Undergraduate Admissions. “Creating convenient spaces like this is all part of that process of communicating how much we care by rearranging our physical spaces on campus to meet the needs of the students and families we serve.”The Butler project began with the replacement of the primary columns on the building’s facade complete with fresh paint. To combat any future drainage issues, the grounds around the building were graded and leveled along with the removal of unhealthy trees. The steps taken offer easier access to the building from sidewalks along Russell Avenue, while allowing for an ADA compliant main walkway. New sidewalks with improved directional layout as well as additional parking will grant inviting access to the building. The landscape beautification includes planting new trees and laying sod. Completion is slated for mid-August. Butler Hall project- summer 2022
