Establishing a critical foundation for children, elementary school teachers are helping to shape future world changers. The elementary education program at Carson-Newman prepares you to be licensed as a K–5 elementary teacher, completing all training to graduate with a Tennessee teaching license. Our program is highly respected statewide, and our teacher candidates are highly sought after. The K-5 Elementary Education licensure program was part of the most recent joint review conducted by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Tennessee Department of Education. Very closely related is the high-need area of special education.
There are more than 65,000 teachers in Tennessee. Of those, three Carson-Newman graduates have been awarded Tennessee Teacher of the Year in a 10-year period!
Upon completing the program, you will be fully prepared to take the Praxis Elementary Education licensing exam.
Student teachers have completed their semester of full-time teaching in Jefferson County, Hamblen County, Knox County, Sevier County and several other nearby counties.
