If you’re passionate about the role of music in worship, the church music degree at Carson-Newman prepares you for your ministry calling. Our experienced faculty will mentor you, and a robust curriculum will build your skills and knowledge to equip you as a musician or leader in the local church. Many students in the church music program continue to graduate studies in church music.
The church music program is closely connected to Carson-Newman’s Ball Institute for Church Music, which promotes congregational worship through conferences and scholarship.
C-N students have completed internships and work experiences in places like:
Carson-Newman’s Music Department offered me a unique hands-on experience that helped prepare me early on for my calling in the church and set me on a sturdy foundation towards my further graduate studies.
The Ball Institute for Church Music partners with local churches so that Carson-Newman students can be integrally involved in the music ministry of a local church. Many students find the experience so rewarding that they choose to keep their placements for more than one year. Frequently, students also lead worship for one of the campus ministry organizations or serve on C-N’s chapel committee and so help plan and lead chapel services for the entire campus community.
