Philip Bailey, DBA, MBA

Director of MBA & Associate Professor of Management

Dr. Philip Bailey is an Associate Professor of Management and serves as the Director of the MBA program at Carson-Newman University. He is leading efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into the business curriculum, preparing students for the evolving demands of an AI-enabled workplace while maintaining a strong focus on ethical decision-making.

Dr. Bailey earned his bachelor’s degree from The Citadel, his MBA from King University, and his doctorate from Walden University. Trained as a chemist, he spent 25 years in product development before transitioning into IT-related roles and eventually higher education. Since joining Carson-Newman in 2015, he has worked to bridge the gap between real-world business practice and academic theory.

At Carson-Newman, he has developed AI-centered courses, launched an MBA specialization in AI and Business Analytics, and created practical resources for teaching prompt engineering in clear, accessible ways. His academic interests include social media marketing and the strategic use of generative AI in business education. He is currently writing a guide to AI prompt engineering for business professionals that blends storytelling, humor, and hands-on guidance.

Outside the classroom, Dr. Bailey and his wife Mary live in Bristol, Tennessee, where they are active members of First Presbyterian Church. In his free time, he enjoys traditional woodworking and beekeeping—two pursuits that reflect his belief in thoughtful leadership, patience, and craftsmanship.
