Post Office Manager

Job Title:                     Campus Post Office Manager                                                                           

Department:                 Campus Post Office – Division of Financial & University Services                        

Reports To:                 Director of Print & Mail Services

FLSA Status:                Non-exempt

Time Requirements:     37.5 hours per week.                

Summary Description:  Managing and operating the Campus Post Office.

Functional Description:

  1. As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks.
  2. Serves as the primary customer service agent for the Campus Post Office which includes greeting students, employees, and guests in person and on the phone.
  3. Responsible for general office duties, including answering the telephone, responding to email correspondence, maintaining appropriate filing, and keeping office supplies and stamps adequately stocked.
  4. Receives and distributes all campus mail and packages for students, staff, and faculty.
  5. Responsible for hiring and evaluating student workers through the work study program. Must schedule and manage work schedules for the student workers to correspond with their availability outside the classroom.
  6. Assigns and maintains mailboxes to all current students.
  7. Responsible for securely maintaining any checks produced by the Treasurer’s Office once delivered to the Campus Post Office. This includes placing the checks into a secure location and requiring signatures from the appropriate department/receiver when the checks are being claimed.
  8. Prepares a departmental operating budget for the Treasurer’s Office every Spring.
  9. Schedules and maintains all office equipment.
  10. Completes monthly reports to the Treasurer’s Office for inventory and departmental charges incurred.
  11. Maintains a clean and organized workspace which includes the hallway leading to the Campus Post Office, the Campus Post Office service window, the Campus Post Office staging area, and the dock elevator.
  12. Checks departmental mailbox daily and distributes mail accordingly.
  13. Maintains a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Supervises student workers.       

Education:  High School Diploma required.

Experience:   One to two years in supervising and customer service preferred.

Required Skills:  Computer skills related to Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Operating various office equipment, including phone and copier. Operate various software programs and equipment for the purposes of receiving and shipping of mail and packages. customer service skills.
