Carson-Newman again named a College of Distinction

(July 27, 2018) JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman University has been named a College of Distinction for 2018-2019, with additional recognitions as a Tennessee College of Distinction and a Christian College of Distinction.

Moreover, the University received program-specific recognition in nursing, education and business.

“We are absolutely thrilled to recognize Carson-Newman University as a College of Distinction for its effective dedication to student success,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction is so impressed with Carson-Newman’s curriculum, which is enriched with the kind of high-impact educational practices that are most crucial for student development. Such innovative engagement is preparing the next generation of young adults to thrive after college.”

Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of a review of each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, alumni success, strategic plan, student satisfaction and more. Schools are accepted on the basis that they adhere to four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes.

Carson-Newman has received the designation several times in recent years.

“It is always an honor to receive this recognition,” said Paul Percy, the University’s executive vice president and provost. “Our dedication to helping students achieve their dreams is unwavering. Carson-Newman’s faculty and staff walk alongside our students to ensure they have a positive, enriching college experience both inside the classroom and in our community.

High school college counselors and educators nominate colleges and universities for recognition by Colleges of Distinction, which then evaluates each school based on qualitative and quantitative research. The colleges and universities are not ranked and instead are members of a consortium of other equally impressive schools.
